I've seen this kind of trunks in real life, these trees are not very friendly! Great shot, interesting abstract It lacks a real focal point though. Nice grey tones!

Interesting tree, seems that your attempting to guide attention towards upper left portion where trees' side meets sky. This guide works, but it draws away from area near center of composition that stands out because of appears to be less of those thorn-esque growths.

Diane - I've made this photo with compact camera, so I wasn't able to make better DOF btw, I've made this shot in botanical garden in Palermo, but as I remember the tree was from South America.

That's a pretty sharp--haha, sharp--shot. The thorny growths remind me of the sort of mountain glyphs seen on fantasy maps, except in 3d. Love the ominous mood.
